Music and celebrations

The theme for the Quilt Block Mania block of the month for July 2022 is Music. This is an awesome theme, from saxophones to bagpipes to your favourite Christmas music, there is a lot to love. My block is celebrating one of the most well-known tunes in the English speaking world - ‘Happy birthday to you’. The block features a keyboard and a stave with notes. You can of course change the notes to your favourite song, but I’ve just had a month of family birthdays, so I’m definitely in the birthday mood.

The block is made quite simply with strip piecing and a little raw edge applique. It would be great on bunting, on a music bag, on a music lover’s quilt, made into a cushion and so on. I’ve made mine with a rainbow keyboard and matching notes in the spirit of celebration, but it would look great in white and black, especially if you used a range of white on white fabrics which are all subtly different.
