Australasian Quilt Convention 2019
Just enjoying the best of Australia at the AQC. I was lucky enough to get down to Melbourne for the weekend. The tutors’ quilts are, as ever, awesome. The special exhibitions were Enjoy the photos.
The detail in this is fantastic, and I love the way she uses value in the fabrics to create such a complex image.

One lovely section was a retrospective by Julie Haddrick, a ‘Rajah’ winner. I love bird quilts and I particularly like Julie Haddrick’s little vignettes of bird life, so clearly expressing the character and charm of each bird.

This QAYG hexagon by Glennis Cheng made with vintage doilies and liberty fabrics is a great way to give embroidery a new lease of life and makes a two sided quilt with the liberty hexagons on the reverse.

I was so pleased to see this elephant quilt by Sue de Vanny. I had seen it in magazines, and was excited to see it actually. It’s a pity it hadn’t been hung with a black backdrop.
