Christmas quizzes for quilters. Quiz One is just for fun.
I’ve made a few little quizzes just for fun. They are something to enjoy with a few like-minded friends round Christmas.
One of our favourite things to do when singing carols was to sing the alternative version. So “While shepherds watched ….” became “while shepherds washed their socks by day / all seated round the tub / a ray of sunlight soap came down / and they began to scrub.” I’m sure I’m not the only one who sang this. We also loved ‘The Angel Gabriel” because just a minor tweak in the chorus turned “ most highly favoured lady” into “Most highly flavoured lady” an alteration which never grew tired.
There were some very odd ideas in carols, due, I will admit, to me being a child who could read well, but who disregarded the punctuation. So Silent Night had a mysterious line in it “Son of God loves pure light”. Now I’m fairly fond of a decent light source myself especially when quilting late into the night, but it was still puzzling. The comma and the apostrophe totally changed the meaning, but perhaps needlessly.
“God rest ye merry gentlemen” also gave me pause for thought. What were the gentlewomen doing? Were they resting already? Did they not need saving? Who knew?
Well, here we go. Quiz number one is multiple choice…. very easy.
I hope you enjoyed that. What is your favourite line? Have you got any other ideas for lines or does another carol spring to mind. Let me know in the comments. And a happy Christmas to you and yours.
