Uluru by Terri Ahrens
The highlight of the Queensland Quilt Show for me was the enormous image of Uluru by Terri Ahrens inspired by a visit to the centre with techniques inspired by a workshop with Susan Carlson. This stunning triptych was made to be a back drop for her daughter in a flute competition. (She had a three month deadline ... What????)
I particularly liked her use of Aboriginal fabrics in the evocation of the desert landscape and colours. It is brilliant.
If you haven't seen Uluru, It's a massive sandstone rock in Central Australia. The surrounding land has been eroded leaving this impressive monolith. The Anangu people from this area have many Tjukurrpa legends relating to it. A lot of the Aboriginal designers use Tjukurrpa as the basis for their designs.
